2026 Recycling Update

As of January 1, 2026, Ontario has moved to a new provincial recycling system operated by Circular Materials Ontario. The new changes have standardized recycling across the province. Residents will still use the recycling bins at the waste sites but there are a few changes to specific items. Some of the changes include:

  • coffee cups, black plastics and toothpaste tubes are now recyclable in The Archipelago.
  • all cartons and containers, including gable top cartons are now to be placed in the Plastics/Containers bin.
    • rinse thoroughly, do no flatten, and keep caps on.
  • liquor and beer bottles are not accepted. Please return to The Beer Store or authorized grocery retailers.

Please visit Circular Materials Ontario website for The Archipelago for more information, including a full list of accepted items.

Food Cyclers

The Archipelago is excited to continue offering Food Cyclers to residents at a subsidized rate. There are a limited number of units available. Please visit the food cycler webpage for more information.

Electronics

The Archipelago is an Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) authorized collector. Household electronics are collected and diverted from the waste stream, free of charge, at the following sites: Site 9, Crane Lake, Healey Lake, and Woods Bay.

Please refer to the following list of accepted electronic items

Tires

Please return used tires to authorized retailers.
