Raise the Roof Case For Support

Pointe au Baril Covered Rink Pavilion

The community of Pointe au Baril has known about, and longed-for, over many decades the wide array of benefits that a properly constructed covered outdoor rink venue might offer to both permanent and seasonal residents. 

Simply put, we need an all-weather outdoor venue offering a sport and recreational place  space for all to share. A space that also provides a dependable destination for seasonal markets, shows and celebrations, family and community events and social gatherings of all kinds, regardless of the weather. 

Finally, our new long-awaited Pointe au Baril Covered Rink Pavilion is underway.

This exciting project is being led by the Township of The Archipelago in partnership with the PaB Raise the Roof! Steering Committee. With the Township’s support and additional funding secured through a special Provincial grant, Phase One was completed this past Spring. This included a completely refurbished rink surface, new rink boards and a special structural foundation to allow for Phase Two – the construction of the all-important roof over the rink.

In June of this year, the Raise the Roof Steering Committee, along with the leadership of the Township, learned the exciting news that our second Ontario grant application was approved to help complete the roof structure and other surrounding amenities. That means that a full two thirds of the estimated completed $750,000 cost is now secured!

The $500,000 grant leaves $250,000 remaining for the community to fundraise to get us to our goal of this acquiring a community asset, without impacting our Municipal taxes, to be owned and administered by our Township moving forward. 

The time has come for all of us to show our mutual dependence and support, and turn this long-held dream of what might be, into a shining example of what we can accomplish when we all pull together. 

Already a number of our local community groups have contributed generously, like the “North of 50” and PaB Snowmobiler’s Club among others, giving us a $30,000 head-start!

Now is the time for all of us; local businesses, seasonal and permanent residents and everyone who benefits from a thriving and happy Pointe au Baril community, to step up and Raise the Roof!!
