2026 Municipal and School Board Elections - Important Information for Electors

2026 Municipal and School Board Elections - Important Information for Electors

The Township of The Archipelago is preparing for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections, to be
held on Monday, October 26, 2026. To help ensure a successful election, the Township is focused on ensuring that all eligible electors are registered and prepared to vote.

Local Electors’ List

For the past four municipal elections, the Township has maintained its own local electors’ list. This list is kept current through regular updates and direct communication with residents. It has proven to be accurate and responsive to the unique needs of our community, and the Township intends to continue using this locally maintained list for the 2026 election.

What’s New for 2026

Recent legislative changes have resulted in Elections Ontario being responsible for maintaining, providing and supplying the Preliminary List of Electors (PLE) for Municipal and School Board Elections, a role previously held by Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).

While this change is intended to improve consistency across Ontario, the Township of The Archipelago will continue to rely on its locally maintained electors’ list for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information for our community.

What This Means for You

To make sure you are eligible to vote in 2026, we strongly encourage you to complete both of the following steps:

  1. Confirm Your Information with the Township
Please contact the Township to verify that you are included on our local electors list:
    Maryann Martin, Clerk - mmartin@thearchipelago.ca 705-746-4243 Ext. 301
    Alana Torresan, Deputy Clerk - atorresan@thearchipelago.ca 705-746-4243 Ext:315

Please share this information with anyone eligible to vote within The Archipelago. If someone in your household should be removed from the Township's electors' list (for example, due to death, or because they are no longer an owner or tenant), please notify us so we can update our records.

  2. Confirm Your Information with Elections Ontario

Who Can Be an Elector?

  • A Canadian citizen
  • At least 18 years of age
  • An owner or tenant of land in the Township of The Archipelago, or the spouse of one
  • Not prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act or otherwise by law

Why This Matters

Accurate voter information helps ensure a smooth and efficient election process. Confirming your information in advance can help prevent delays or complications when it is time to vote. Voter participation also has a direct impact on election turnout. Higher turnout strengthens local democracy by broadening the representation of community interests and ensuring Council decisions better reflect the voices of residents. Every vote contributes to shaping the future of our community.
